Haldia - A Brief Profile
Location
Now known as industrial capital of West Bengal Haldia is a sub-division of district PurbaMedinipur .The city
has evolved and expanded over time to a current population of one million, ranking it 29th in India.
Haldia is situated in the confluence of river Haldi and river Ganges . The city has very good road and
railway connectivity with Kolkata, It has a direct route to Jamshedpur and its industries that passes via Kharagpur.
It has proximation to the State of Jharkhand and Orissa .
Economy & Administration
The city's economy is based on primarily the oil and petrochemical industries. Being A major Port has the
largest container logistic yard and is heavily industrialised.
Haldia is a Municipality administered by the Haldia Municipality. It is proximate to popular tourist centres of
Digha , Shankarpur and Nayachar , Geokhali , Mahishadal , Mondarmoni and Sunderbans .
